Parkland Post - Friday 7th February 2025

A big warm welcome to this week's Parkland Post.  It has been Children's Mental Health Week this week and we came together as an academy on Tuesday to take part in the Great Big Live Assembly.  It was great to hear so many ways that our children can help to look after their mental wellbeing and the presenters shared some lovely things we could do if someone was feeling low.  Time to Talk Day was held yesterday and there are some details below of what we got up to.

Attendance Matters

Our whole school attendance has been much lower this week due to chicken pox.  Our whole school attendance was 88.4% which is such a shame as we were doing so much better in recent weeks.  Let's see if we can get back to the high percentages again next week when everyone has recovered.  Year 4 were this week's winners with 94.4% and they won an extra playtime - well done!

The race for the attendance class prize is very tight indeed!   When the stickers were added to the chart, it resulted in a tie between Years 3 & 4.  The winning class will be announced on Wednesday so your attendance on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next week is key!  Good luck and remember, you have to be in it to win it!

Time to Talk Day

Our children had a lovely day on Tuesday doing a variety of tasks around mental wellbeing.  All of the staff were outside for our Daily Mile so they could walk and talk.  Miss Carter has looked closely at what mental health is and how we can look after ourselves.

BIG Family Breakfast

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came to our BIG Family Breakfast - it was wonderful to see so many of you enjoying breakfast together.  The bacon and sausages were expertly cooked by Steve from St John's at Thorpe Edge and Mrs Peacock who couldn't resist coming back to see you all again!  Thank you to Mrs Flaherty, Mrs Denby and Mr Wilkin for organising and setting it all up - you are amazing!

NSPCC Number Day

The children looked fabulous in their outfits today!  We had so many fun maths-based activities and games throughout the day and everyone came together in Years 2 to 6 with their chromebooks for a massive TTRockstars session!  There were maths games played in classes and Maths Olympics in Year 3 to 6 - it all got very competitive!  Thank you to Miss Tindall for organising it all. Thank you also for your generous donations as we managed to raise £76.76 for NSPCC Number Day too!

Building Work

Some of you may have noticed that we are having some building work done.  We are converting our old KS1 classrooms into brand new Nursery and Reception classrooms.  We are so excited to have all of our Parkland family in the main building and we will keep sharing updates with you as we go along.

And finally...

Everyone at Parkland wishes you a very happy weekend whatever you decide to do.  The weather looks slightly warmer at 7oC but it does look like we might be getting some rain.  I will be going to see my mother-in-law for her birthday, Mr Watson doesn't know what he is doing and where he is going as it's a surprise, Ms Pascoe is celebrating her son's 6th birthday with a party and Mrs Shirra will be going full energy in a Clubbercise class!  We will see you bright and early on Monday morning where our doors open at 8:40am ready for learning to begin at 8:45am.  We are going to smash our whole school attendance next week - can't wait to see you all soon!
