Parkland Post - Friday 31st January 2025

Welcome to a bumper edition of the Parkland Post and what a week it has been!  I am feeling incredibly proud of our pupils this week (even more than I usually do) because we have had a really positive week!  Highlights for me are: an increase in attendance, pupil participation in two different events and some brilliant work going on across our academy.  I wanted to thank you all for helping to raise our attendance this week. It makes such a difference having everyone in school, in class and working hard each day.  Our Early Bird attendance drop was a huge success on Monday morning - keep your eyes peeled for the next one of these to happen.

Attendance Matters

THANK YOU to each and every one of you who came into school every day and on time - because of you, we have managed to raise our whole school attendance to 94.3% which is above the national average!  The class with the highest attendance was Year 5 with 98.7% and they won some new stationery.  The table below shows attendance for each class:

Class

Year 1

Year 2

Year 3

Year 4

The classes who reached 96% or above have earned themselves an extra playtime - well done!

Bikeability

Nursery, Reception, Years 1 and 2 have the opportunity to learn how to cycle safely and know how to look after bikes.  They had a brilliant session with Phil, the bike coach.  The children listened carefully and soon got their confidence.  Our Nursery and Reception followed a circuit and went over ramps.  We were so proud of the way they tackled the day!

Go It at 1 Angel Square

Four of our Year 6 pupils travelled to 1 Angel Square to take part in the regional final of Go It event.  They had prepared a video and a presentation to share with other academies all about their product which was the 'Useful 3 in 1' app.  The app is a water tracker, it tells you how to incorporate fruit and vegetables into meals and alerts you when to put the bins out (recycle or normal).  I would love to have a real version of this app to keep my life in order!  Congratulations to Olivia P, Aishah B, Tiana K and Lay-Mae W for their hard work.

Cones Launch Event

Yesterday, ten of our Year 4 pupils visited the University of Bradford for the Cones Book Launch event.  They were given lots of tasks to complete from creating a book cover, working together to create a story map, writing a presentation and delivering this to the other schools and adults in the room.  They were so impressed with our pupils that they won a £100 Amazon voucher!  Well done to Leela H, Jaden O, Naviyah F, Paisley J-B, Gerald J, Isabel K, Amelia A, Lilly O and Indira G - we are so proud of you!

And finally...

We hope you have a fabulous weekend whatever you decide to do - the weather looks like it will be cloudy but not rainy which is a relief!  Ms Pascoe will be otter spotting, I will be going to see Hamilton at the Alhambra Theatre, Mr Watson will be meeting friends and Mrs Shirra will be having a curry night with friends  Let's have another big push on attendance next week and see if we can crack the 96% mark - remember, you have to be in it to win it!  Our doors open at 8:40am ready for learning to begin at 8:45am.
