Parkland Post - Friday 24th January 2025

Welcome to this week's Parkland Post - it has been a flurry of activity!  We welcomed some visitors to our academy who were impressed this week at the things that our children have been up to.  We dropped into the Year 4 violin session and loved to see the whole class working together practising their pizzicato (plucking) skills to a song called 'Tribal Dance'.  As someone who played violin at primary school, it reminded me of how much I enjoyed playing an instrument and learning new songs each week.  We will be inviting parents into school later in the term for a violin performance - keep watching for a date.

Attendance Matters

Over the last two weeks, attendance has been a tale of two halves.  Last week, whole school attendance was 95.3% which very nearly hit our target of 96%.  There were 5 classes who did reach the target of 96% and all received an extra playtime.

We are so proud of these pupils, who have shown a huge improvement in their attendance so far this year and all have attendance of at least 95%.
Layla-Faye B (Year 3)
Arthur MacFarlane (Year 1)
Kaci, Charlie and Ellie (Year 3, 4 & 6)
Tommy W (Reception)
Ellis W (Year 4)
Arya-Grace Verity (Year 2)
Kayleigh C (Year 2)

As a result these pupils have the best chance of making the best progress!  Well done to pupils and parent/carers.  Keep up the good work!

This week, our whole school attendance is only 91.9% which is a huge drop since last week.  Our winners this week are Year 2 with 95.2% and they got to have a spin on our Attendance Wheel.
Next week, let's hit our whole school target of 96% and have our best week ever!  On Monday, we are going to do an Early Bird prize drop.  Every child who is in school and on time will be able to have a dip in our Attendance Prize box - remember, you have to be in it to win it!

Behaviour Policy Review

On Friday 31st January, we would like to invite you to consult you on our improved Behaviour Policy.  We will be holding this after the Celebration Assembly and will be doing it as a coffee morning so you can have a look at the policy, have the chance to ask any questions you might have and have a cuppa and some cake with us.

Coming up next week:

  • Monday - Early Bird prize drop - Be in on time for a dip in the attendance prize box!
  • Tuesday - Nursery, Reception and Year 1 Balance Bike Day; Year 6 trip to Bradford Cathedral to meet Tom Palmer (author) and and our final KS1 Family Maths Event at 2:15pm
  • Wednesday - Chinese New Year lunch and Go It trip to 1 Angel Square in Manchester for a group of Year 6 pupils.
  • Thursday - Book Launch event for 10 of our Year 4 pupils.

5-a-side football tournament

On Wednesday, some of our Year 4 and 5 pupils attended a football tournament at Co-op Academy Priesthorpe.  They all had a fantastic time and were each awarded a gold medal as the points were collated and they won on goal difference.  We are so proud of you all and would like to thank the pupils at Priesthorpe for running the event.  Special mention needs to go out to Mr Barnes and Mrs Lygo for accompanying the pupils to the event and also to Mrs Newsome from Co-op Academy Priesthorpe for organising and running everything!

YACAD Wrap Around Care from school finish -6pm

And finally...

We hope you have a lovely weekend whatever you decide to do.  The wind is meant to die down and it should be quite sunny but rather chilly so you'll need to wrap up warm.  I am going to walk Jet and visit Otley market on Sunday, Ms Pascoe will be having a relaxed and pamper weekend, Mr Watson will be going bowling with friends and Mrs Shirra will be watching The Lion, the Witch and Wardrobe at the theatre.
