Parkland Post - Friday 20th June 2025

Welcome to a very warm and summery Parkland Post - grab yourself an ice pop or a cold drink and find yourself a shady spot!  It has been a brilliant week in and around the academy this week, we have had lots of trips and visits and our children have been working incredibly hard.  I have had the chance to see some wonderful pieces of work from children across all of our classes and the overall impression I got from each one of them was that they were very proud of their hard work.

Arts Week

Our children have had the opportunity to take part in lots of activities this week as part of Arts Week.  Mr Watson organised art sessions, music sessions and lesson ideas for each class - a huge thank you to him for sorting all of this.  I would also like to thank YACAD for the ukulele and keyboard sessions and the art sessions in their dedicated studios - we are so lucky to be able to access these amazing sessions.

Children's University Graduation

Mrs Shirra and I had the pleasure of attending the Children's University Graduation event at the University of Bradford yesterday evening.  Children who had collected stamps every time they visited museums or took part in clubs in and out of school were able to graduate at bronze, silver and gold levels.  Our graduates dressed in a cap and gown and were presented with their certificates.  We are incredibly proud of them all - well done.

Attendance Matters

You may have noticed that our new attendance banners have been put up at both sides of the school with handy reminders about what good attendance looks like.  I am so pleased with the way they look and that they give the message that we are aiming high with attendance.  There have been a lot of holidays being taken in term time this week - please remember that holidays during term time are not authorised as it interrupts your child's learning journey.

Our whole school attendance this week was 91.2% which is lower than last week.  Well done to those children who have been in school every day and on time - we see you and your names have gone into the raffle to win a £50 Just Eat voucher!

The winning class this week was Year 4 whose attendance was 97.9%.  They won an extra playtime because they were over 96% and a movie afternoon on the Attendance Wheel - well done to you all!

Clean Air Day Visit to City Hall

Yesterday, Mrs Shirra and Mrs Lygo took three of our Year 6 pupils to City Hall as part of Clean Air Day.  They took the bus into town and met children from 17 other schools across Bradford with the common aim to improve air pollution in our city.  They looked at the benefits of hydrogen cars, climate friendly planets and how to reduce aerosol pollution as well as being able to share their ideas in Council Chambers.

Primary Poetry Festival

A group of Year 5 and 6 pupils journeyed to 1 Angel Square in Manchester today to take part in the Co-op Academies Primary Poetry Festival.  Our two teams from Years 5 and 6 performed their own compositions brilliantly and looked like they were having such a good time whilst doing it!  Thank you to Mrs Shirra and Mr Barnes who accompanied them on the visit.

And finally...

We hope you all have a lovely weekend whatever you decide to do - the weather looks like it might be quite mixed.  I am hoping that it doesn't rain on Saturday evening as I'm going to a family BBQ,  Mr Watson will be enjoying the sunshine, Ms Pascoe will be going out on her paddle board and Mrs Shirra will be off to the cricket.  Enjoy the weekend and we will see you bright and early on Monday morning where our doors will open at 8:40am ready for learning to begin at 8:45am.  Don't forget that if your child is in school every day and on time, they will be entered into our attendance raffle - you have to be in it to win it!
